Core Values

Mission Statement

Our mission is to develop positive attributes and intangibles in hockey players of all ages. We want our players to be problem solvers – becoming an independent thinker is critical to success in sports and life. Flexibility – in team sports, the game is the teacher. Learn by failing. Embrace being uncomfortable. Consistency – isolation of the skill. Competitive repetition creates skill. We strive to have our players pay attention to details, to learn anticipation and situational awareness. Competitiveness, intelligence, puck possession skills, and speed (both physical & mental) are our core values.

CORE VALUES

Competitiveness

Thankless Effort

Secondary Effort

Competitiveness is a prerequisite to success in any endeavor. In ice hockey, competitiveness is displayed by players in scrapping for the puck, wall play, fronting the net, back checking, tracking back, and racing. At Hockey Intelligence, our coaches play a key role in putting players in competitive situations frequently in practice, and parents play a key role by endorsing the virtues of putting in effort, regardless of outcome.

Intelligence

Awareness

Sense

Decision Making

Hockey sense consists of the ability to make decisions with and without the puck with high situational awareness to best benefit the team. In a sport where small players can destroy big players, hockey sense is a critical component of successful players and teams. At Hockey Intelligence, we implement game-like situations and elements with high repetition to improve players’ understanding.

Puck Posession Skills

Puck Handling

• Passing

• Shooting

These are the foundations of technical skill in ice hockey. Puck handling, passing, and shooting require a balanced stance and agility on your skates with the ability to shift weight in a complimentary direction of motion. These foundations are further broken down into physical and mental aptitudes that can be improved on through repetition and coaching at Hockey Intelligence.

Speed

Recognition

If one stereotype about hockey is true, it’s that speed kills. Mental and physical speed makes players stand out on the ice and on the scoresheet. At Hockey Intelligence, we help players improve their physical and mental speed, resulting in better, faster skating and decision making.
